Hewitts are excited to have become corporate members of the Friends of the Stockton and Darlington Railway. Our Managing Partner, Helen Simmons, said ‘In the 200th anniversary year of the Stockton and Darlington Railway it is an exciting time for us to become members of such a wonderful local organisation and to support them with their charitable efforts. Our offices stretch the line of the original railway, from Bishop Auckland, through Darlington and to Stockton and it is special to think about the impact that such a local project has had on the World’.
Niall Hammond, chair of the Friends, said ‘we are delighted that Hewitts are going to be supporting our work not just in this bicentenary year, but in years to come when we hope the internationally important story of the S&DR will inspire local communities, school children and business to do great things in the future as their ancestors did 200 years ago’
Hewitts have recently purchased the high-quality commemorative book produced by the Friends, which is a wonderful pictorial journey of the history of this iconic railway and the book now stands proudly in the reception area at our Darlington office. There are also a number of free guided walks taking place in the coming months, focusing on the people and places that were key to the birth of the railway that changed the world.
