It has been reported that the number of care proceedings being issued by Local Authority’s has increased since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic.
It is believed that this is a combination of lockdown leading to families spending more time together in a confined space, increased drinking by some parents and money worries which is putting a strain on families and placing children at risk.
The NSPCC reports that isolation of children caused by the current Covid-19 pandemic can put some children at greater risk of emotional, physical, sexual abuse and neglect. The NSPCC acknowledges that during the current pandemic, families may need more support than usual.
Some Family Courts have seen a rapid increase in the number of Care Proceedings being issued by local authorities and Courts are often operating remotely with telephone and Skype hearings. We are still able to offer representation at these remote hearings to ensure that your interests are represented.
Should you or your family have any safeguarding concerns raised with regards to your children, then please do not hesitate to get in touch with a member of our family team in order to seek legal advice about your position.
