Over the last four years Hewitts have committed to the development and learning of young people by employing over twenty people aged 16 to 18 years on an apprenticeship scheme. During their one year apprenticeship they have the opportunity to learn a variety of skills in both business administration and accounts. Twelve of those apprentices have remained with Hewitts as permanent staff members.

Some of those members of staff have subsequently progressed in our organisation and established themselves with a career in legal practice. Hewitts recognise and support the importance of training and progression within the workplace.

One of our most successful apprentices is Abbie who joined us an apprentice and has now progressed to a working as a Paralegal. She has her sights on qualifiying as a solicitor and is undertaking her Law Degree part time. Abbie says “When I joined Hewitts I didn’t know what my future career would hold. I was able to develop my office based skills with the variety of work I was asked to undertake and when I was appointed as a permanent member of staff I knew the law was a future career for me. Hewitts have been really supportive and accommodate my studies by facilitating study leave and supporting me as I have progressed. The apprenticeship scheme was the foot in the door that I needed and with the commitment and support of Hewitts, I am excited about what the future holds”.

Laura McMaster from ITEC North East (pictured with some of our current apprentices) says that “An apprenticeship with ITEC North East is a fantastic opportunity for anyone aged 16 plus to build lifelong skills and develop sector related qualifications to help shape their future. As a training provider it is essential that we work closely with employers such as Hewitts to ensure that we maximise the opportunities available both to our learners and employers. Hewitts have continuously offered our learners a wide range of opportunities working in different departments of the company; this provides excellent experience to help learners achieve their qualifications as well as develop their knowledge and understanding of their role, our learners have even gone on to secure full time permanent employment which as a training provider is a fantastic and rewarding result”.

Hewitts are committed to the training and development offered through the apprenticeship scheme and we look forward to working with many more enthusiastic young people in the future.
