Sometimes, even with the best will in the world, individuals and businesses can’t agree. If you are in a dispute – or facing civil court proceedings – let us help you.
Civil litigation is a process for resolving disputes between individuals and organisations via negotiation or the courts. Commercial litigation involves the resolution of disputes in the corporate and commercial sectors.

– Debt and insolvency proceedings
– Asset recovery
– Neighbour disputes and privacy law
– Financial and insurance dispute resolution
Certain aspects of Debt Recovery work can be undertaken on a fixed fee basis, for example preparation of a letter of claim pursuant to the applicable procedural rules. The amount of the fixed fee will be dependent upon a number of factors such as:
The value of the debt pursued
The number of documents
Whether additional work, such as searches against the debtor, is required
We offer competitive hourly rates if you would prefer to pay for advice or representation as you go. At the outset of the matter we will provide you with an estimate of costs and as your case progresses we will provide you with regular updates on costs so that you are always kept up to date.
You may wish to pay for advice and representation on an hourly rate basis but with a particular budget in mind. We often agree with clients that we will undertake work on their behalf with a “fee ceiling” and we agree that we will not exceed their budget.
In cases where a pursued debt is disputed, it may be necessary to commence Court proceedings.
Anyone wishing to proceed with a claim should note that:
The VAT element of our fee cannot be reclaimed from your debtor.
Interest and compensation may increase the costs and disbursements involved.
There may be additional costs where enforcement action, such as instruction of a bailiff, is needed to collect your debt.
Our fees may include:
Taking your instructions and reviewing documentation
Undertaking appropriate searches
Sending a letter before action
Receiving payment and sending onto you, or if the debt is not paid, drafting and issuing claim
Where no Acknowledgment of Service or Defence is received, applying to the court to enter Judgement in default
When Judgement in default in received, write to the other side to request payment
If payment is not received within 30 days, providing you with advice on next steps and likely costs
In every case we will provide a clear estimate of our overall costs and anticipated disbursements before any work is undertaken on your behalf.
Please click here to be directed to our Civil and Commercial Litigation Team page. All members of our team have experience in dealing with debt recovery matters, from small claims (less than £10,000) up to multi-track claims for the recovery of six-figure sums. We regularly represent clients in recovering undisputed and disputed debts. Each member of our team is experienced in pursuing cases through Court proceedings, up to and including taking enforcement action.
Matters usually take 0-3 months from receipt of instructions from you to receipt of payment from the other side, depending on whether or not the debt is disputed and/or it becomes necessary to issue a claim. If Court proceedings or enforcement action is required the estimated timescales could be longer, and we will discuss these with at the appropriate time.
