Rachel Evetts, our Head of People was invited by the Friends of the Stockton and Darlington Railway to view the replica Locomotion arriving into Heighington Station as part of the celebrations of 200 years of the railway.
Rachel said ‘my 4 times grandfather, John Falcus Carter, designed and oversaw the construction of the world’s first railway station at Heighington as well as being part of the engineering team of the Skerne Bridge and I was proud to stand here, 200 years on, as part of these celebrations’.
Hewitts are a proud corporate member of the Friends of the Stockton and Darlington Railway and look forward to continuing to support them including their fundraising efforts to restore Heighington station, the world’s first railway station.
