In a recent press release, the Law Society ‘urges everyone to make a Will’.
A Law Society and Legal Services Board survey confirmed that 11% of people in England and Wales said that they had dealt with an estate of someone who has died in the last 4 years, with 26% of those people confirming there was a problem or dispute involved in the estate.
Additionally, the Association of Lifetime Lawyers commissioned research confirming 52% of people do not have a Will in place at all. The survey included adults over the age of 30.
The process and modernisation of making a Will is already going through change with the expected Will reform in April 2025 and a draft Will Bill. The Law Society explain the changes will ensure Wills ‘remain fit for purpose in a modern-day context’.
The Law Society confirm that ‘Grieving loved ones deserve a clear probate process, made easier with an updated Will’. With updated Wills and clear instructions, disputes in estates can be reduced and family can be assured they execute their family’s latest wishes.
