The High Court has ruled that a Will written on the back of cardboard food packaging was valid.
The Testator had died leaving his handwritten Will on the back of boxes containing Young’s frozen fish and Mr Kipling’s mince pies. The Will was witnessed by two neighbours, and was admitted to Probate in format of two cardboard boxes. In this unusual case, the High Court Judge ruled the unconventional document was in accordance with the requirements of the Wills Act 1837. It was ruled that Intestacy would not be in line with the Testator’s intentions, as the Will left the house and contents to a charity. The family were aware of the gentleman’s intentions and supported the claim made to prove the Will in its original format.
