Unregistered Land – Why should I register my land?

Unregistered Land

Have you lived in your property for a long time and do not know if your ownership of the property is registered at the Land Registry?  Unregistered land relies upon title deeds to show the history of ownership.  It may be that the time is now right for you to register your ownership of the property to avoid any future delays, expense or worry.   Please have a look at the points below as to why making a voluntary registration to the Land Registry now is a very good idea:-

Why should I register my land?

  • It provides proof that you own your property – with an official plan.
  • It makes future sales of your property simpler, quicker and less expensive. All the information about your property becomes available in most cases at the click of a mouse from the Land Registry’s website.
  • You never have to worry about missing or lost deeds
  • It helps stop fraud which can result from copying title deeds.
  • It gives an early opportunity to sort out any problems with the title deeds.

Why register now?

The Land Registry have recently reduces their fee for voluntary registration. Fees for first registration are calculated according to the value of the land being registered (e.g. registration of property valued up £80,000 is reduced to £40 upon voluntarily application).
