During proceedings, if a party to the proceedings has difficulty understanding what is being said, the court process or is vulnerable, an Intermediary may be appointed to assist. An Intermediary can also assist where someone has a physical, neurological or mental health condition that affects their ability to participate fully during a Court Hearing.
An intermediary is a trained expert who can assist you to better understand Court Proceedings. Intermediary’s work for the court and can help you through the Court process, including helping you understand what is being said and helping you to remember what has been said.
In order for an Intermediary to be appointed, an application must be submitted to the Court. This is normally after an independent psychologist has completed a Cognitive Assessment.
